Ebook Background

About the Datameer Spotlight Key Capabilities White Paper

While, in many ways, the cloud was designed to simplify and modernize computing architectures, there is one problem it makes more complex: the enterprise data landscape. Data in the cloud has created even more silos and replicants, and deploying analytics in the cloud faces the daunting challenges of navigating the hybrid data landscape, preserving security and governance, and keeping costs under control.

Datameer Spotlight enables business teams to discover, access, collaborate and analyze data in a self-service manner across their growing hybrid landscape to eliminate analytics blind spots. As a result, it enables more valuable and trusted analytics by business teams while eliminating the key technical challenges to deploying cloud analytics, including costly data movement processes, security and governance risks, and complex architectures.

Execution Architecture

Learn how Spotlight works under the covers to execute virtual queries over your hybrid cloud data, optimizing the execution and maintaining security.

Once you’ve found the right datasets to help answer your analytics question, you need to put them in the right shape for your analytics tool for final analysis. This may mean combining multiple datasets, transforming columns, enriching the data, and more. The result is what is called a “created dataset.”

Spotlight provides an easy-to-use toolset to help you make the data analytics-ready, making the everyday operations point and click while also giving an analyst the ability to perform more sophisticated transformations. And the modeling is performed during the discovery process, helping make the analytics cycle extremely agile and iterative.

Spotlight provides Al-assisted methods to help you understand what data to combine and how to combine it. When users explore a dataset, Spotlight shows the other datasets it has been combined with to build a richer overall dataset. Once you decide to combine datasets, Spotlight uses Al to examine and offer the best methods of combining the data.

Spotlight serves as a bridge between your analytics tool and the various data sources that may be feeding into the Spotlight virtual dataset. The unified access layer provides a set of standard interfaces (JDBC) for tools to access and query data.

Users are authenticated into Spotlight via their Bl and analytics tool. But, the credentials for accessing the underlying data in the source may be different. Therefore, Spotlight stores data source access credentials for each user and passes these credentials down at execution time. This dual authentication maintains the integrity of the data source security, eliminates the need to replicate access controls, and maintains the highest level of security.
