“Why did you join and why do you like working at Datameer?” are the two questions that come most often from the naturally curious candidate during an interview. An unavoidable grin then creeps up and the answer simply rolls off my tongue with ease and more than a tinge of pride: “the people”, I reply.
Of course, there are so many other elements I touch on, like the fact that our leadership is geared toward the empowerment of employees at Datameer, and how working here is inspiring, and just how much our product rocks. We are committed to being earth-friendly, so everyone sports a food-grade stainless steel water bottle we give them to avoid plastic bottle waste, and an organic, locally produced, fresh lunch is catered in daily. This is all true, and they are all elements of what makes me enjoy working here. But the people, the team, the visionary leadership that drives our collaborative and respectful dynamic is always my number one answer to candidates. It’s because people are simply not a replicable ‘perk’, its something special and rare and it is what sets our environment apart.
After that, I just leave it to my teammates to back up what I’m saying simply by being themselves. After a few follow up interviews, when the candidate and I reconnect, there is a momentum that has been built up, evident in their voice. After witnessing this evolution repeatedly in the recruitment process here at Datameer I came to realize that with each Datameer teammate prospective candidates meet, the more the candidate wants to join.
