How-to: Use Datameer Spreadsheet Analytics on Hadoop | GROUPBY, GROUPCONCAT, LISTELEMENT

I am a big fan of Datameer’s simple spreadsheet UI for Hadoop data analysis, which offers more than 240+ point-and-click functions for creating different “views” of any data. The entire paradigm makes extracting information that might normally take hours to pull, fast and straightforward.

For example, let’s say you’re really interested in the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners in a specific Olympic sport from the years 1976 through 2012 but all you have is a giant lump of data with names, years and scores, like the below:
