How-to: Import Data into Datameer Using Regular Expressions

By on June 12, 2014

Sometimes the simplest features are the most helpful and often times serve as the foundation for future projects. With that, I’d like to introduce you to my favorite Datameer feature, regular expressions. This feature let’s you parce out your data without needing to know specific information, just a general idea of what your data contains.

For example, if I wanted to import Twitter data into Datameer but I only wanted those tweets that included our handle (@datameer), then I could create a regular expression (or a REGEX in Datameer) to only find data that included that specific parameter. In essence, regular expressions are a way for matching up strings of text like particular characters, words or phrases. This can be used in searching, editing and manipulating your data and once you have what you are looking for, you can then use it in separate workbooks and continue to analyze it as part of your data source.

You can watch my step-by-step tutorial for a more detailed look in which I use movie data, and of course, be sure to download your free Datameer trial  and try it out yourself.
