Phil Gilligan is a Managing Partner at Sand Hill East LLP, joining the partnership in July 2016. Prior to Sand Hill, Phil was Chief Information Officer Americans & Head of Innovation in the COO Group at Deutsche Bank. Over the last 30 years, Phil has held many senior technology leadership positions within Financial Services including at Deutsche Bank, UBS, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, EBS Dealing Resources/ICAP, and Moody’s.
At Deutsche Bank, Phil was accountable for designing and developing a formal Innovation platform to establish the Bank as a thought-leader within key innovation ecosystems around the world. He led the design and launch of the “DB Labs” centers in Berlin, London, Silicon Valley and New York to accelerate the adoption of new technologies into the bank. He was also appointed Americas regional CIO, overseeing the major regulatory programs in the region.
Prior to Deutsche Bank Phil was the CIO for the UBS Wealth Management Americas division, and the Americas CIO. He established a strategic architectural blueprint, instituted significant cost reductions, re-designed the technical delivery organizations to optimize alignment with the business, and delivered numerous new capabilities to the financial advisors including an innovative mobile solution for legacy functionality.
Phil holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Kings College London, and a Master of Science degree in Biological Oceanography from the University of Southampton, UK. Earlier in his career, he worked for several years as a marine biologist with the World Wildlife Fund, the British Antarctic Survey, and the Government of Norway. He and his wife Natalie live in New Jersey, and they have three sons.
