How To: Extract Tokens With Regular Expressions in Datameer using REGEXTRACT

By on February 14, 2014

*In this weekly blog series, engineering and support staff at Datameer share their favorite features in Datameer.**

For my Favorite Feature, first you should familiarize yourself with regular expressions, if you’re not already. Regular expressions, (or REGEX in Datameer) are a way for matching strings of text, e.g. particular characters, words, or phrases. They can be used in searching, editing and manipulating your data, and in Datameer, they can be used in building formulas or in a filter.

Once you’re familiar with REGEX, learning how to do a REGEXTRACT so you can extract tokens that match a regular expression will be helpful for further parsing your data. Unlike the TOKENIZE function, the regular expression matches the tokens that should be returned (not the separators).
