It also wasn’t his first exposure when he worked at Yahoo! Labs, or even when he worked at Fair Isaac, which is one of the pioneers of building analytical products – they developed the FICO credit score, which has been around for more than 40 years as the gold standard for credit risk.
Nope, he trained as a professional astronomer. He got his Ph.D. in astrophysics building computational models in order to understand the structure of the universe. Now, that’s big data.
